NEW YORK FASHION WEEK S/S 2015

September 19, 2014 in: Be Inspired, Coast Moments, Fashion Week

All eyes were on the city of New York for their famously fashion-forward collections last week, and we couldn’t wait to see the inspiration for next season’s looks!

Classic Spring/Summer trends came through strongly with new takes on favourites such as pastels, florals and monochromes – but with new darker elements coming through with burgandy and navy tones, bold graphical prints and textures and eye-catching metallic elements.

See below for our favourite trends that we spotted on the catwalk for next season:

SPRING_SORBETS

Spring and Summer are famous for their pretty pastels and delicate sorbet shades – this year is no different but a fresh new outlook takes this from classic to contemporary with the use of modern burn-out textures, heavy embellishment, luxurious lace and daring proportions on separates. We love the maxi skirt teamed with the crop tops seen, textured details throughout the Monique Lhuillier and perfect maxi dresses at Jenny Packham.

IRIDESCENT_LIQUID

Metallics are traditionally selected for Autumn/Winter seasons with Christmas being prime time to wear a bit of shimmer- Not for S/S15 however, where the NY designers have designated that the metallic trend will shine through out the year! Through delicate metallic woven fibres and printed fabrications to iridescent features and trims at Marc Jacobs and Jenny Packham, these designs will stay relevant throughout the season with minimal accessories and sleek hair to keep the look minimal and modern.

MAGNETIC_MONOMonochromes are a constant throughout the year but never more fresh than during the Spring/Summer Season. Separates were key this year with textured lace skirts, printed fabrics and structured tops to match. Softening the bold mono look was lots of feminine detailing such as lace, embroidery and peplum waistbands.

DARK_SHADOWSDeep velvety burgandy, rich emeralds and bold navy blues were a surprising feature on this years Spring/Summer catwalks. Traditionally soley for the pastels and the florals, this year looks to bring the elegance and mystery of the evening to the season where bright is ruled as right. Rich plum tones at Victoria Beckham matched with the deep blue hues at Jason Wu and 3.1 Phillip Lim are luxurious in tone and flattering in fit.

GRAPHICAL_CLASH

Stripes, spots, florals, checks and ethnic patterns were running riot all over NY’s catwalks this year. Clashing is key next season with separates being layered boldly over other prints to create not only interesting silhouettes but also unique pattern combinations. Thakoon layered multiple polka dots, DKNY used stripes to solidify the aztec print skirts and Lela Rose went for demure checks- with more checks!
