Could Catherine Middleton, our new Duchess of Cambridge, have possibly chosen any better with her wedding dress? We’d been wondering for months but when she finally emerged in her Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen creation there was a collective gasp around the world. A trend has definitely been set.

And while the strapless, sweetheart neckline has dominated the style of wedding gowns for years Catherine has reignited the trend for a demure bride.A shrug, lace bolero or short jacket are just the touch to add that regal style to your wedding gown if you want to channel our newest Princess when you walk down the aisle.
The one trend it was difficult to avoid, especially if you happened to be sitting behind one in the Abbey, was the fascinator. Victoria Beckham. Princess Beatrice, Tara Palmer-Tomkinson and Zara Phillips all showed how a bit of headgear can be your outfit’s crowning glory. Even a gilded or sparkling headpiece can give that regal feel if you’re not keen to go all out with fascinating flourish. The trend for fascinators proves yet again how vital accessories are to any style. Take not from The Queen and Camilla Parker-Bowles who are expert at choosing shoes and handbags to bring their style together.

Uncommon though it is to see a Maid of Honour wearing white the fact that Pippa Middleton looked so dazzling in her McQueen gown has put ‘white’ back on the table for the wedding party. A white dress needn’t look bridal if, like Pippa, you keep accessories simple and let the dress be your statement.
