Now the head of production at Coast, Stuart has genuine British fashion pedigree. His earliest venture in fashion involved taking over a family manufacturing business renowned for specialist expertise in producing quality goods. In this role he was perfectly placed to watch the explosion and subsequent influence of UK design during the 1980s, and was fortunate to work with amazing talent, the likes of which included John Galliano, Jasper Conran, John Richmond, and one of Princess Dianna’s esteemed couturier Arabella Pollen.

The British design juggernaut which led to the growth and establishment of design focused high- street retail coincided with the decline of British based manufacturing, heralding difficult times for small business.  In the nineties Stuart closed up shop, and took up a position with Whistles. Using the precedent set by the high street he aided the retailer in a transition from brand which exclusively stocked designers such a Betty Jackson, Dries van Noten to a successful in-house design model. This risky initiative ultimately proved to be a winning strategy, with Whistles gaining cult status for their uncomplicated and classic aesthetic with a true British ethos.

In the late nineties, he worked alongside Roger Lee and Lesley Sealey and helped the talented duo achieve huge commercial success with their award winning i.e. uniform label, and from there moved across the Aurora portfolio, working with all retailers within the group. With this immense experience under his belt, he now oversees the whole Coast supply chain, a brand which operates in 25 international markets, in 365 locations, and is transactional online in 45 countries.

Stuart witnessed the rise of London’s fashion scene as it gained international repute in the eighties, has rubbed shoulder with some of the industry greats, has seen trends come and go and come back again, and is a fantastic resource for those who want know the secrets of longevity in this competitive business.
